This place should not exist in a small town like Evanston, yet it perfectly imbibes the town. Hard work by the staff and a great menu led my family and I to a great dinner. I was equally surprised and grateful for the fantastic food and friendly staff as my family was only looking for a spot to eat in a town that seemed to cater to mostly bar joints and rest stops.

Next time in town we will not only eat the Legal Tender but stay there as well.

Good service and decent food for a reasonable price. The French onion soup was too salty for me to eat and the waitress promptly removed it from my bill. Halibut fish with a light breading and a perfect baked potato was very good and enough to satisfy.

Had the signature steak. Cooked very well, meaning perfectly medium rare and the coconut battered shrimp was done almost perfectly. Not a easy thing to do. Side of asparagus left a little to be desired and the soft drinks tasted like the lines could use some work. Well run front of house, servers worked as a team. Not many options to eat in the area. This place is a gem. Will definitely be back on my next pass through. Rated a 4 but knowing management looks and responds to reviews supports my opinion of well run front of house and that makes them a 5. Support independent restaurants. They have been pounded the past year. Their beauty is in uniqueness and character. This place has both with a good meal.
